Hello God? It's me, le Cornichon...

Please save us from the scary blonde lady..... Amen
And the brunette.
Well tick tock- seems any moment now we will have a new Leader or Fuhrer for these our United States of 'Merica, but elsewhere in the world, other people are putting the "civil" into "civilization" "

The British government has announced new rules that will bar those spreading "extremism, hatred, and violence" from entering the UK, including religious leaders and musicians who preach hatred against homosexuals. The new measures include a "name and shame" tactic of sharing the list of those banned with other countries. Under the new system, any foreign citizen whose arrival here is deemed to be undesirable will be barred from entering unless they can demonstrate why it would be safe to allow them into the country. Those excluded will be placed on an official list of banned individuals which will be published and updated every three months and their details will also be circulated to other countries. One of the main targets of the crackdown will be militant Muslim extremists, such as the radical preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed who is already banned from returning to Britain under existing rules. The curbs could also apply to extremists from other religions as well as neo-Nazis, animal rights activists and those with virulently anti-homosexual views whose inflammatory words might incite violence.
Opposition politicians warned that the plans were inadequate because they do not cover those using the internet to spread hate or militants who are already living in the UK. Ms Smith will insist today, however, that the tougher rules which replace a previous system whose legal rules made it more difficult for the Government to justify a barring order would be a valuable step forward towards curbing the spread of dangerous extremist ideas.
One official added: "Coming to the UK is a privilege. We don't want people abusing that by stirring up tensions."I imagine that Peter Tatchell already has a long list of dancehall, reggae and rap stars to submit to the list. Could something like this ever be implemented in U.S.? It seems doubtful. Like many European countries and Canada, Britain restricts hate speech much more aggressively than we do.....

Meanwhile our public relations stock continues to plummet in other countries, this time Italy, straight from left field, it seems that the final days of the presidential campaign have made Erica Jong and her friends more than a little anxious.
A few days ago, Jong, the author and self-described feminist, gave an interview to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the choicest bits of which were brought to my attention by the reliably sharp-eyed Christian Rocca, the U.S. correspondent of Il Foglio, who published excerpts on his Camillo blog. Basically, Jong says her fear that Obama might lose the election has developed into an "obsession. A paralyzing terror. An anxious fever that keeps you awake at night." She also says that her friends Jane Fonda and Naomi Wolf are extremely worried that Obama will be sabotaged by Republican dirty tricks, and that if an Obama loss indeed comes to pass, the result will be a second American Civil War.
Here's a translation of Jong's more spirited quotes to the Milan-based Corriere, as selected by Rocca.
"The record shows that voting machines in America are rigged."

"My friends Ken Follett and Susan Cheever are extremely worried. Naomi Wolf calls me every day. Yesterday, Jane Fonda sent me an email to tell me that she cried all night and can't cure her ailing back for all the stress that has reduces her to a bundle of nerves."

"My back is also suffering from spasms, so much so that I had to see an acupuncturist and get prescriptions for Valium."

"After having stolen the last two elections, the Republican Mafia…"

"If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it's not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets."

"Bush has transformed America into a police state, from torture to the imprisonment of reporters, to the Patriot Act."

Holy Batshit Batman. I am personally going to keep my bags packed until after the election.

To those of us about to scream we salute you.....

Don't worry Cornichon, I don't think every single poll can be wrong. Or can they? My God, now I'm nervous!
